Indiana University has carefully crafted plans and procedures for your protection.

In addition to enrolling in IU Notify to receive alerts concerning public safety, you should become familiar with the appropriate actions to take during a variety of possible emergency situations.

Look at your building’s Emergency Action Plan and reach out to your Resident Assistant for more information about the procedures for your building.

Emergency situations

The IU Police Department (IUPD) services the campus, including the residence halls and on-campus apartments. They may be contacted at 911 for immediate policy, fire, and medical assistance or 812-855-4111 for non-emergencies.

The university also has several resources available for student mental health.

About Kitchen Fires

Distractions are everywhere and can lead to poor decision making when cooking.

Avoid causing a fire by:

  • Always turning a stove or oven off when you’ve finished using it
  • Following prescribed cooking times for the items you are preparing when using a microwave
  • Never leaving food cooking on a stove, in an oven, or microwave unattended
  • Never using a stove, oven, or microwave as additional storage space
